Settled in the 19th century by immigrants from what is now Croatia, Gig Harbor "astounds newcomers with its rare beauty and rich maritime history," according to Coastal Living Magazine in naming us #1 on its list of Top 10 Harbors.

Smithsonian Magazine refers to "one of the snuggest harbors in the Pacific Northwest" in choosing Gig Harbor as #5 of its "20 Best Small Towns in America". They go on to describe "a thicket of sailboat masts rimmed by tall pines on the far side of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. When the sun shines you can see Mount Rainier and the snow-crusted Cascades on the eastern horizon."
